Carol L. Newman has been a practicing attorney for 35 years. Her practice focuses primarily on real estate litigation matters, including breach of lease cases, commercial evictions, fraud in the purchase or sale of property, homeowners association matters, developer issues, and breaches of contract. She began practicing law as an antitrust prosecutor in the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and spent 3 years in that position before entering the private sector. Before opening her own law firm in 1994, she was a partner in two law firms, including a large national law firm.
Ms. Newman is currently a member of the board of trustees of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. She is a former board member of California Women Lawyers. She was the first president of the Los Angeles City Board of Taxicab Commissioners, and vice president of the Los Angeles City Board of Transportation Commissioners, during the term of Mayor Richard Riordan.
Ms. Newman is a summa cum laude graduate of Brown University, class of 1971, and a graduate of George Washington University Law School, class of 1977, where she was awarded the Order of the Coif and served as Topics Editor of the Law Review.
