Susan Barilich is an attorney and has practiced law for over 25 years. A substantial part of her practice is devoted to real estate litigation matters, and includes disputes involving commercial and residential construction projects, homeowners associations, land use and zoning, title and boundary disputes, commercial and residential landlord-tenant disputes, foreclosure and other mortgage-related litigation, real estate developer and development issues, eminent domain(governmental takings), broker commission disputes, and breaches of many types of real estate contracts. She has, in addition, been an advocate for both brokers and real estate inspectors in handling professional/ethical complaints against them before State administrative agencies. Ms. Barilich has tried numerous jury trials and trials to the court, and she has handled a number of arbitrations in which real estate issues predominated, primarily construction disputes. Ms. Barilich was invited to join the American Arbitration Association (AAA) arbitration panel, and she was recently approved as an arbitrator for the AAA.
Ms. Barilich is licensed to practice law in the States of California and Texas, as well as in a number of federal jurisdictions. She is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
She has been the principal in a successful solo practice, and she was also a partner in two litigation boutiques in Dallas, Texas, prior to that.
Ms. Barilich has spoken at a number of continuing legal education seminars on various real estate topics including litigation involving financial institutions, usury, foreclosures, and mechanics lien law and construction issues.
She obtained her J.D. degree from the University of Houston Law School, and her B.A. (English) from Indiana University (with high honors). She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on June 29, 1954. She currently lives in Glendale, California, with her 2 dogs and a few famous furry felines, as well.
Ms. Barilich initially joined CREW Dallas in 1998. She was an active member in that chapter continuously since that date, until she moved to the Los Angeles area and joined CREW Los Angeles in 2008. While she was affiliated with the Dallas chapter, she was on the programs, membership, publications, and marketing committees. In addition, Ms. Barilich participated in CREW’s national publications committee in 2006. She also volunteered for the CREW Classic (Dallas), an annual golf tournament and fund raiser, and in addition, organized the annual Wine Tasting for CREW Dallas one year, and raised money for the CREW Dallas annual dinner in the late ‘90s.
Ms. Barilich has attended many of the CREW national conventions, including the convention hosted by LA CREW in 2000, where she first became acquainted and formed friendships with a number of the members here in Los Angeles.
Ms. Barilich has been on the Board of Directors of the Connemara Conservancy, a land trust, and has also been on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, as well as having been an officer in that organization.
